Injisuthi is in the northern section of the Giant's Castle area of the
Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park. This hutted camp is cradled between the Injisuthi
and Cowl Fork rivers at the head of the Injisuthi Valley. It is surrounded by
magnificent scenery and is dominated by Cathkin Peak, Monk's Cowl and Champagne
Castle.
Visitors may undertake many interesting walks into the Mdedelo Wilderness Area,
as well as a guided walk to the Battle Cave, famous for its bushman rock art.
Several kilometres of trout waters provide an excellent opportunity for
flyfishing. The hutted camp consists of fifteen 4-bedded cabins. They are fully
equipped, self-contained units with two bedrooms, a combined lounge and dining
room, bathroom, toilet and kitchenette with a refrigerator and stove. Each unit
has a sleeper couch to accommodate an aditional person. Linen is provided and
visitors do their own cooking and washing up.
Electricity is available between 17:30 and 22:00 only.There are no plug points
in the chalets. There is also one dormitory cabin with eight beds. All units
have a fireplace for cold winter nights. Each unit also has its own barbecue
facilities. Charcoal and wood are sold at the curio shop. There is a very
attractive campground with hot and cold water ablution facilities which can
accommodate 120 people. Four caves, the Lower Injisuthi Cave, Upper Injisuthi
Cave, Marble Baths cave and Grindstone Cave are ideal overnight stops for
hikers.
Accommodation
Injisuthi is cradled between the Delmhlwazini and Old Woman streams at the
head of the Injisuthi Valley, surrounded by Cathkin Peak, Monks Cowl and
Champagne Castle. Injisuthi is a central pivot to the variety of hiking trails
that lead across the mountains, north to Cathedral Peak and south to Giant's
Castle.
The Mdedelelo Wilderness Area, just north of the camp, is a unique wild and
remote mountain wilderness without any direct human impacts. Hikers can
overnight in one of three nearby caves, the Lower and Upper Injisuthi Caves and
Grindstone Cave. Mountain huts are also used as overnight stops on longer hiking
trails in the mountains. Injisuthi camp has 15 fully equipped self-contained
four-bed cabins, with two bedrooms, bathroom, toilet, lounge/dining room and
fully equipped kitchenette with refrigerator and stove. There are no plug points
in the chalets, although electric lighting is available in the late afternoon
and evening. One 8-bed dormitory cabin is also is available in the Injisuthi
Camp. All units have fireplaces and barbaque facilities. A coffee bar and lounge
with satellite TV will shortly be available. Camping facilities are also
available for guests.

campsites can accommodate 120 people. The well-spaced campsites feature shared
taps and barbecues with firewood available for sale. Two ablution blocks feature
hot and cold water, flush toilets, showers, a bath and dishwashing facilities.
Three two-bed safari tents are also available at the Injisuthi campsite.
Injisuthi camp has fifteen fully equipped self-contained four-bed cabins and one
eight-bed group cabin for the convenience of guests.

Special Precautions:
The weather is subject to change at short notice and can become very cold.
Hikers are advised to ensure that they are well equipped and that they fill in
the Mountain Rescue Register.
The nearest town which has a full range of services is Estcourt which is 60 kms
away.
How to get there:
Turn off the N3 at the Estcourt North off-ramp and turn towards Loskop.
After 27 kms turn left to Injisuthi.
Pets are not permitted into the reserve.
"No entry fees will be charged for visits by KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Primary and
Secondary School groups, from KZN Schools to KZN Protected Areas and St Lucia
Crocodile Centre provided that such visits:
1. are authorised by the Head of the school
2. are booked in advance with the Officer in Charge of the Protected Area or
Crocodile Centre
3. do not take place over weekends, during KZN Provincial school holidays or
Public Holidays".
