Polokwane Nature Reserve

At 32 square kilometers the Polokwane Nature Reserve is one of the largest municipal-owned game reserves in South Africa. And with summer temperatures averaging 27 degrees Celsius and winters 20 degrees Celcius, it is the perfect spot to enjoy nature all year round. The park has a good road network as well as walking trails, so whether you want to relax and view from your air conditioned vehicle or lace up your hiking boots and just take a leisurely stroll, Polokwane Nature Reserve is ideal for you. For those really wanting to spend a day on their feet in the reserve the is a 20km trail with optional overnight accommodation. But there are shorter walks (remember to set off early to avoid the midday sun and take drinking water with you) for those just wanting to escape the busy city life for a couple of hours, relax in the picnic area or even just have a braai (barbeque) with friends. Accompanied with a well equipped camping and caravanning site and thatched chalets, it is also possible to turn your trip to the reserve into a relaxing retreat. While in the reserve, you can keep your eyes open for over 20 different species of game, including the White Rhino, Tsessebe, Sable Antelope, giraffe and zebra. There are also various hides for the birdwatchers, and with over 300 different species of bird found in the reserve there are more than enough for the enthusiasts. Apart from the Short-clawed Lark, Bushveld Pipit and Chestnut-vented Tit-Babbler, there are also breeding birds of prey, such as the Wahlberg's Eagle, Greater Kestrel, African Hawk-Eagle, and Secretary Bird, to name but a few.

Opening hours are daily from 07:00 to 16:30.
