The Stables Lifestyle Market in Durban is housed in the old New Market
Stables in Durban, which were previously used as stables for horses. The market
consists of about 230 stables, each one having been transformed into an
attractive little shop or business with the market's main focus being on arts
and crafts combined with the unique and unusual. It still retains the look and
feel of a stable with the alleys in which the stalls are located being named
after famous race horses.
A drawcard of the venue, is that the Stable Lifestyle Market opens twice a week,
on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 pm to 10 pm, allowing visitors to take
advantage of the pleasant Durban weather while browsing under the moonlight in a
secure and friendly environment. It is also open on Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm.
At The Stables visitors will find a wide and interesting variety of goods
including clothing, antiques, books, toys, make-up, paintings, embroidery,
cellphone accessories and many others. There is also a variety of tempting food
stalls and a pub. Market goers are often treated to live music performances,
which makes for a pleasant atmosphere while you have something to eat.
Entrance is free.
