Situated in the historic KwaZulu Natal town of Estcourt, Glamosa Glass is
proud to be one of the few companies in South Africa which produces a range of
glassware items. Established just over fifty years ago, in January 1958, they
pride themselves in the fact that they were the first company to produce glass
mosaic in South Africa, and presently manufacture a beautifully elegant range of
recycled glassware which includes recycled glassware, opaline products and glass
mosaic
The company started operating from a small factory at Elandsfontein, near
Germiston, and early production methods and skills were based on renowned
Italian styles in the manufacture of colourful glass mosaic. The demand for
glass mosaic increased and with rapid growth in the market Glamosa's business
expanded significantly, until in 1970 a new factory was built at Estcourt, , and
the company head office relocated to Johannesburg. During that favourable time
of expansion, Glamosa also began exporting quality glass mosaic to numerous
international locations, whilst still focusing on supplying the local market in
South Africa.
As the years went by, ownership of the company changed hands, entering into a
new era seeing their production methods being improved and processes once again
expanding. In the early 1980's Glamosa began producing a new range of lampware
glass products, which included numerous blown, pressed and spun products.
Presently Glamosa specialises in production of opaline (white) and flint (clear)
glass lampware items, and their production processes incorporate machine
manufactured semi-automated products. Due to popular demand Glamosa also
produces an extensive range of handmade mouth blown glassware items, including
candle shades, jars and vases.
Visitors are provided with the excellent opportunity to participate in
interesting and informative guided tours of the factory where they can follow
the manufacturing process and witness the talented craftsmen making magnificent
glass products. Tours are run from Monday thriugh to Friday, by arrangement, and
the cost is only R3,00 per person.
Glamosa Glass also features a gift shop which offers visitors an awesome and
wide variety of quality hand made glass products, as well as a stylish range of
beautiful imported vases. For more information, please make use of the details
