Port Elizabeth's old railway station , which stands on Market Street in Uitenhage, was constructed on the same year that the railway from Port Elizabeth opened, and is said to be one of South Africa's oldest railway stations. The old building, constructed in 1875 now houses the Old Railway Station Museum, and exhibits a variety of historical items which include two vintage steam locomotives, a number of coaches, period furniture and various pieces of equipment. The building also houses a residence, a waiting room and a tea room, in addition to the old station office.
