The privately owned Kariega Game Reserve, set high up overlooking the tranquil Kariega River Valley in the Eastern Cape, serves as an ideal getaway from fast paced city life. Located in the heart of the Eastern Cape's 1820 settler country, the area provides visitors with a rich historical heritage, as well as a rich diversity in wildlife. Lying within a malaria-free area, the Kariega Game Reserve offers excellent game viewing drives in open 4x4 vehicles, accompanied by experienced rangers, through the five distinct habitats which are housed within the reserved.

A large and abundant variety of animal life inhabits the 5,000 ha reserve, and includes elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, hippo, zebra, eland, giraffe, wildebeest, waterbuck and a variety of smaller antelope. Kariega also serves as an ideal bird watching destination, and is home to an impressive list of more than two hundred and eighty species which includes nesting Martial Eagle, and both Crowned and Fish Eagles.

Kariega Game Reserve is also ideally situated as a stop-off point along the way to the Garden Route. Kariega Game Reserve also offers guests the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing cruise down the Kariega River on the spacious Kariega Queen, while sipping on sundowners on the deck, and taking in the unspoilt scenery as they pass through it. The area is also good for canoeing, and visitors can paddle down the Kariega River, while making sightings of Fish Eagle along the banks.
