Aladdin's De-Light is one of the older members of the Midlands Meander, and
was established over ten years ago in Nottingham Road, KwaZulu-Natal. Aladdin's
De-Light has developed over the years from being a simple little coffee shop
with crafts into a distinct and uniquely pleasing "Meander experience." The cafe
gallery is home to two well known South African artists, Louise and Jan van
Niekerk have developed Aladdin's into a showcase for their numerous talents.
Jan and Louise both specialise in stained glass, and share a combined experience
of over twenty five years, and all the glassware featured in the shop is
produced by them. The couple produces an extensive variety of lamps which range
from small table lamps to large Tiffany style originals, which are custom
designed for their clients. They happily undertake commissions, especially for
stained glass doors, windows and kitchen cabinet doors. They are able to assist
customers in the process of choosing of glass, as well as the colour and unique
design, and where possible will visit the client's home. Louise also produces a
range of hand thrown ceramics in either stoneware or earthenware finishes,
putting to use more than twenty years of pottery experience. Visitors to
Aladdin's De-Light will also find other various crafts in the shop which include
decoupage and candles, and make excellent and affordable gifts.
The multi-talented Van Niekerks also offer three day courses in glass staining
and two to five day courses in ceramics. Aladdin's De-Light also features a
country restaurant and coffee shop, as well as bicycle rentals and a farm stall
which sells Farm Butter, Milk & Cream, Home made Jams, Chutneys & Pickles,
Rainbow Trout (fresh & smoked), Vegetables & Fresh Fruit and Biltong.
