Sterkfontein Dam Nature Reserve

The Sterkfontein Dam is the centre of attraction for most visitors to this nature reserve. Every February the reserve holds the Catamaran Championships on the 7,000 ha dam. Strong winds make this a favourite dam for many types of watersports.

Birds and bird lovers will also enjoy the dam. Nearly 200 bird species have been recorded at the reserve.

There are several good trails where hikers can enjoy the fresh mountain air. the reserve encompasses both open veld terrain as well as many forested ravines and kloofs. Although wildlife is not prolific one should be able to spot a few small antelope.
