Hidden away in a limestone ridge in the Swartberg Mountains of the Klein Karoo lies one of South Africa's oldest and most spectacular geological formations - the Cango Caves. For over 200 years the caves have been a major tourist attraction to the area.
The Cango Caves consist of a labyrinth of interconnected chambers full of stalagmites and helictites, creatively illuminated to highlight the natural ochres and oxide deposits that decorate the intricate limestone formations.
Visitors to the caves may either take the Standard Tour or the more challenging Adventure Tour.
The Standard Tour operates from 09:00 - 16:00 every hour on the hour
Adults: R R48.00 / Children: R 26.00
Duration: 60 min
The Adventure Tour operates from 09:30 - 15:30 every hour on the half hour. Adults: R 62.00 / Children: R 40.00
Duration: 90 min
Rates valid until June 2007
Other facilities include a restaurant where on can enjoy Ostrich and Karoo Lamb, a curio shop, and an interpretive centre where one can learn more about the history and geology of the caves.
