Delportshoop

Delportshoop, a small diggings town nestled in the confluence of the Harts and Vaal Rivers, is situated at the foot of the Ghaap Plato. The city of Kimberley, with its world-renowned Big Hole is only 45 minutes drive away, a distance of approximately 60 km. The town of Delportshoop was officially proclamated on 28 November 1871 an it became known as an important centre in the boom days of the alluvial diamond diggings along the two meandering rivers.

Delportshoop is well known for its informal settlements, formal agricultural and game developments, as well as historical settlements such as Sydney-on-Vaal and Longlands. Closely situated to the town in Ulco, a mine settlement and one of the biggest cement mines and factories in the Southern Hemisphere. Its fine quality products built the well-known Katze Dam in Lesotho.
