Situated only twenty minutes north of Durban is the 925 hectare tropical
coastal estate of Zimbali. Nestled between pristine beaches and caostal forest
Zimbali is a nature lovers paradise providing visitors with a perfect balance
between nature and luxurious comfort. Zimbali manages to maintain this balance
through a prescribed design philosophy, which ensures that the developments
don't affect the natural surroundings in too much of a destructive manner.
Zimbali gets its name from the Zulu language, and roughly translated means
"Valley of Flowers", an accurate description of this beautiful coastal region,
consisting of lush sub tropical vegetation, flourishing with wildlife. Nature
trails through the indigenous coastal forest highlight the strict conservation
program that has been introduced there. The area is home to a variety of species
which include bushbuck, monkies, bush babies, and blue duiker which often make
their way onto the golf course. Zimbali is also a bird watcher's delight with
over two hundred species frequenting the forests and surrounds.
The full length of the eastern border is flanked by a pristine three kilometer
stretch of beach making it the ideal location for scenic horse rides, swimming,
fishing, and dolphin and whale watching. Other activities in and around Zimbali
include helicopter and microlight flights, mountain biking and quad biking, scuba
diving and kite surfing. The magnificent eighteen hole golf course at the
Zimbali Country Club was designed by former British and SA Open championship
winner Tom Wieskopf, and proves to be a decent challenge to golfers of any
handicap. The course features rolling wetlands and coastal forest, leading
golfers on a tough walk but fortunately the use of golf carts are compulsory.
Zimbali is also closely situated to the headquarters of the Natal Sharks Board,
which provide visitors with informative tours and displays throughout the year.
For keen shoppers, Gateway shopping centre is also nearby, with its hundreds of
stores and entertainment facilities.
