High in the Northeast edge of the Drakensberg Range bordering Lesotho is the Royal Natal National Park. This park is the foremost of KwaZulu-Natal's national parks and here the mountains rise majestically towards the sky in a massive amphitheatre of rock. Mont-aux-Sources itself is a large and unspectacular hump of rock on the rim of the Drakensberg that sits above the swampy plain between Lesotho and KwaZulu-Natal. From here, though, flows KwaZulu-Natal's largest river, the Tugela and in the park is the Tugela Falls, the highest in KwaZulu-Natal. Here also are several tributaries of the 2000 kilometre-long Orange River where it starts its journey westward to the Atlantic Ocean. There is ample accommodation in this beautiful and secluded part of South Africa. This is a favourite area for climbers and hikers, but visitors can also hire horses locally and enjoy some spectacular treks.
