St Georges Park, situated near to the centre of the city, is home to the second oldest cricket club in South Africa, but also offers an open air theatre, a swimming pool, bowling greens, jungle gyms and a duck pond. St George's Park is home to thousands of visitors daily, but in spite of this, it remains one of the most beautiful and peaceful parks in the Eastern Cape. The park is full of beautiful gardens and tall trees and is home to a wonderful botanical garden. It is frequently chosen as a venue for weddings.
The open-air theatre in St George's Park was built after a request by the Port Elizabeth Shakespearean Festival in 1971. Today, the theatre is comprised of a stage area and grassed area as well as grassed tiers where seats may be placed. Shakespearian plays are produced here every year. If you're visiting Port Elizabeth, don't leave until you have visited the magnificent St George's Park.
