The Hluhluwe River Lodge Experience
Hluhluwe River Lodge. The lodge commands a spectacular view of the Hluhluwe River floodplain and False Bay. It offers the most comprehensive experience of South Africa's first natural World Heritage site including the famous Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park a mere thirty minutes from the lodge.
Wildlife
Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park offers excellent game viewing and a chance to see the "Big Five" from our open land rover's whilst the False Bay sand forest is the home to one of Africa's smallest antelope the Suni and its shy relatives the red and grey duiker. Nyala, impala, reedbuck, kudu, Zebra, waterbuck, vervet monkeys, black backed jackal, aardvark and bush pig all occur in the area. The area is also home to purple crested lourie, narina trogon, green coucal, pink throated long claw and African broadbill to mention but a few of the 318 bush and water birds that occur here. Hippo and Nile crocodile are found in the lake whilst otter and water mongoose although rarely seen scour the shoreline for food at night.
Accommodation
Twelve luxury thatched chalets are dotted around a magnificent indigenous garden each with its own viewing deck. There are eight two bed chalets, two four bed family chalets with private shower and toilet facilities. In addition there are two honeymoon chalets with shower and Victorian style baths. All chalets have modern air conditioners and mosquito nets. Twenty eight guests can be accommodated comfortably. There is a central main lodge facility with separate lounge, dining room and pub facility and an outside boma where meals are served under the African stars. There is a network of well lit paths connecting the rooms to the main lodge and there is a secluded swimming pool in the garden.

a variety of adventures all of which are run by our in house field guides.
Our popular game drives to the famous Hluhluwe iMfolozi Game Reserve are
conducted in the morning and evenings. For the adventurous and active types
we offer hiking, horse and mountain bike trails in the forests and along the
pristine shores of Lake
St Lucia. Our cultural tour is conducted on Quad
bikes and affords guests an interactive insight into the vibrant rural
culture of a Zulu community. Birdwatchers can take a sunset boat cruise on
the Hluhluwe river and see a variety of interesting riverine bird species
whilst enjoying a chilled glass of wine. We also offer guided day trips to
Mkuze game reserve and the coastal marine reserves of St Lucia, Cape Vidal
and
Sodwana Bay.
