A Country Estate that offers you privacy; peace & quiet; panoramic views; a
large variety of bird life and renowned fly fishing; as well as pet friendly
accommodation. Geared for any event from quiet get away weekends for couples or
large groups to conferences, team building events and intimate weddings. This
500 hectare estate is situated in the Steenkampsberg mountain range equidistant
between Lydenburg. Being 1700m above sea level it is in a malaria free area; all
water is source fed spring water and enjoys warm languid summers and clear crisp
winters.
Children and pets are more than welcome.
Accommodation
Bald Ibis (overlooks 2 weirs), Guinea Fowl (overlooks 1 weir) and Fish Eagle
(overlooks 1 dam) cottages each sleep up to six. These cottages are beautifully
appointed, completely private and each has its own spectacular view by the
water. The cottages consist of an open plan Lounge / Kitchen area with large
fireplace, 2 bedrooms downstairs, a loft upstairs and 1 bathroom with a bath as
well as a "Moon Shower". There is also an outdoor fireplace / braai area, and a
"stoep with a view".
These cottages have Queen sized beds and single beds.
The Farmhouse is a 6 sleeper - 3 bedrooms, 1 with a queen bed and the others
with singles. This cottage has a shower room and a bathroom with a bath and
outdoor shower, a fantastic entertainment area and a wonderful view.
General Information
Bedding, towels, firewood and basic cleaning supplies are supplied. There are
TV's in the cottages with a limited selection of DSTV channels. All cottages
have fireplaces and braai areas.
The firewood bins are filled with wood on arrival (sufficient for 1 night in
winter and the entire weekend in summer); any additional wood required can be
purchased for R40.00 for a full fill. Please remember to bring your own charcoal
and firelighters.
We have a wide selection of fishing waters, namely 10 dams, 5 weirs in our
catchment stream and over 3 km's of wild river fishing. All fully stocked, from
600g to 3.5 kg (and growing!). We stock rainbow, golden and brown trout. As we
try and promote catch and release each cottage is permitted to keep 2 fish per
stay, any additional fish kept will be charged at R60.00 per kg.
Highland Giants is a fly fishing only venue and we respectfully request that you
only use barbless hooks. Float tubes are allowed.
Tuition can be arranged in advance.
We also have a wonderful variety of wild & bird life - Zebra; serval, caracal,
mountain reedbuck, duiker, fish eagle, spoon bills, to name but a few .
Our farm is also ideal for long hikes or not so long walks, with great views and
also some iron age Pedi Settlements and Trekboer ruins to wonder through!!
Obviously being situated in the Grassland of the Highveld we would recommend
that you bring sun block with you as well as some closed shoes should you decide
to go for a walk.
You are welcome to bring your mountain bikes with you. We do not allow quad
bikes or motor bikes due to the noise factor.
