Heronmoor Retreat is a 300 hectare farm nestling below Giant’s Castle in the
beautiful Hlatikulu valley of the Ukahlamba Drakensberg. As part of the Kamberg
area at the pivot of the Central and Southern Drakensberg, we are ideally
situated for a visit to the berg allowing you to enjoy the peace and
tranquillity but with easy access to berg attractions such as Giant’s Castle,
Kamberg Rock Art Centre and Sani Pass. There are in fact numerous entrances to
the Ukahlamba Drakensberg park which are ideal for morning or day trips,
including 3 entrances within 30 minutes of the farm. The Midlands Meander,
Weenen Game Reserve and Battlefields are also within easy reach.
Accommodation
Our accommodation consists of 3 different units, all of which are
comfortably furnished to provide you with a home from home during your stay. All
units have kitchen facilities, woodburning stoves or fireplaces for cold winter
evenings and patios. A TV with video or DVD players and a selection of movies
and books is provided in each unit for rainy days. The Farmhouse and Harleigh
Cottage offer the free to air channels whilst Heronmoor just has video.
Heronmoor Cottage can sleep 3 adults but is ideal for couples. It has a bedroom
with bathroom en suite with an open plan lounge and fireplace. A private covered
patio complete with hammocks overlooking the garden and a spectacular view of
Giant's Castle and the escarpment is the perfect place to relax.
Harleigh Cottage is great for small families or two couple travelling together.
It has two bedrooms and spacious well equipped kitchen and lounge with a patio
with a beautiful view. A braai and outside table is perfect for a relaxing braai.
There is covered parking next to the cottage.
The Farmhouse is perfect for larger families or groups of friends. It has a
large kitchen and scullery with washing machine, eye level oven and microwave
and a large fridge. The open plan lounge dining area is very spacious and
sliding doors with beautiful views on two sides open onto the patio.
Events and Conference Facilities
Residential weekend photography workshops and yoga retreats are run on a
regular basis. These weekends include accommodation and all meals. The
conference centre also contains a meditation and gym room which is available for
guests to use. We also cater for small corporate conferences and strategic
retreats.
Activities on the Farm and surrounding area
Guests are free to walk on the farm and there are marked trails to the
waterfall, the gorge and stone cottage. Walks are between 1 and 3 hours in
duration. Guests may also use their mountain bikes on any of the tracks or the
quiet roads in the area provide some challenging climbs for experienced and fit
bikers. Neighbouring farms offer horse trails and the berg offers numerous day
walks for the more adventurous as well as rock art viewing. The Kamberg is
renowned for its fly fishing and Heronmoor dam is stocked and available to
guests to use on a catch and release basis. There are day fishing venues close
by. The farm is an ideal place to explore nature and there are many wildflowers
in spring and summer as well as numerous birds including endangered wattled
cranes which breed in this area. Small game may also be seen on the walks.

on the farm for electronic payments.
