The Great White House (GWH) is a luxurious lodge which was specially build to serve as a one-stop-shop for adventure seeking tourists and marine lovers from all over the world.

The GWH is situated in *Kleinbaai only 200 meters away from the launching site where all boat based shark and -whale tours depart from.

What makes the GWH special?
Except for wonderful hospitality , The GWH constantly focus on the comfort of their guests both when they're out at sea or back at the lodge. Guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch in the area's top restaurant which specializes in seafood but also cater for Vegetarians and Meat lovers.

Accommodation
Luxurious fisherman's cottages take you back in time to experience the authentic style of living. Nothing but luxurious peace and tranquility. Cottages are build to accommodate a maximum of four but are normally occupied by couples. A nice fireplace and cozy thatch roof provide the necessary atmosphere for a win-win situation. To capture the essence of Gansbaai and provide yourself with enough time to engage in all the activities guests should book at least two nights at the GWH.

Why do people come to Gansbaai?

Great White Sharks
Every year between 25 to 30 thousand tourist visit Gansbaai or more specifically Dyer Island (only 20 min by boat from Kleinbaai) to encounter the Great White Shark. The reason why so many sharks patrol the waters around the island is because of the 50 000 strong Cape fur seal colony on the nearby Geyser rock, seals are after all the white shark's main food source. Shark viewing can either be done from a boat (because white sharks feed at the service) or the ultimate experience is without a doubt to come eye to eye with these awesome animals by submerging into a steel cage.

*Remember - Anybody can do cage diving - you do not need a scuba qualification!

Southern Right Whales
Every year hundreds of Southern Right Whales visits our coastline to mate and to give birth to their young. The best time to view these gentle giants "in our area" is between July & December (Whale season). During the whale season the qualified marine guides, on our top boat based whale watching vessel (Whale Whisperer), guarantees whale sightings as well an introduction to the area's diverse and rich marine life. De Kelders (5min drive from GWH) is also a very famous spot for land based whale watching because of its unique high cliffs and natural deep bays right next to it. During this period groups of whales often come in to relax and nurse their calves less than 50 meters away from the shore.
