"The friendliest B&B in South Africa"
Set in our lovely 1.25 acre garden, the Lodge offers the choice of Bed and
Breakfast accommodation or two x two bedroom cottages which have fully equipped
kitchens for those who want to do at least some self-catering. We have beautiful
views of the mountains around us and the garden not only contains a fenced pool,
a much used traditional braai area and a convenient gas braai, but also a shadey
gazebo and lots of other comfortable garden furniture for just enjoying those
quiet moments. The garden is ideal for children with a jungle gym and swings and
a slide, and there's always Rosie, our very friendly Golden Retriever, and the
other animals in the garden, to play with.
Bed and Breakfast accommodation
Our 2 double and 2 twin en-suite bedrooms have their own entrances and furnished
patios looking out on to the garden and up at nearby
Chapmans Peak Mountain.
Guests have their known extremely comfortable lounge (lots of books and
magazines, DSTV, help-yourself fridge we keep stocked with soft drinks, beers,
wines etc and breakfasts are generally served at a single large table, whenever
possible outside on the patio of the main house. We have been told many times
that our breakfasts are the best that our guests have had while in South Africa
and we also serve fresh fruit salad and freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals
and yogurts, croissants/breads/jams, cold meats and cheeses and freshly prepared
eggs and bacon as well. Little extras like our home made pancakes and hot syrup
are also served.
The four rooms are large enough to have an extra single bed added if required,
in which case we can reduce the nightly rates accordingly.
About Us
Your hosts are Alan and Linda Coombes. We moved here to Noodhoek from Cambridge,
England in early 1997 and have been operating and developing Goose Green Lodge
since then. We have developed a reputation for doing everything we possibly can
to make our guests feel at home while they are with us and to making sure we
provide everything we can in the way of advice and assistance so that guests
have the best possible holiday in this lovely area.
About Noordhoek
Noordhoek is a semi-rural village renowned for its wonderful beach, its
horseriding and environment that attracts those who want to enjoy the peace and
atmosphere the village provides yet want to be within easy distance of the city
of Cape Town.
Surrounded on three sides by mountains, including the beautiful Silvermine
Nature Reserve, and on the other by our 7km beach of white sand we are on the
Atlantic side of the peninsula but the beaches on the Indian Ocean/False Bay
side of the peninsula are also only 5-10 minutes away from us. So, we really are
ideally located for all the attractions in and around Cape Town.
The village is an especially popular location for a wide range of artists who
have formed the famous Noordhoek Art Route by opening their studios to the
public on the first Sunday of each month between October and May. Noordhoek Farm
Village is the center of village life, just 1km down the road from us, and has a
collection of craft outlets, our marvellous village pub "The Nags Head", which
serves excellent food, a cafe and restaurant, and we are fortunate to have a
wide range of other restaurants and eating places both within the village or
within a few minutes' drive of us. Some of these are especially famous for their
seafood and are located right next to the Ocean. We provide our guests with a
full description and recommendations of all of these. For those who are
self-catering we have a large supermarket and mall just 3kms down the road that
offers everything anyone would normally need as well as several cafes and fast
food outlets and a 5 screen cinema.
Things To Do
We will be able to provide you with all the advice you might need on how to make
the best possible use of your time here, whatever your special interests, but we
are perfectly located for visits to all of the following places or activities in
the area:
* Walking/Hiking. This whole area is ideal for people who enjoy walking, whether
this might be strenuous hikes up and across
Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve/Cape Point. The reserve covers almost 8,000
hectares of the southern tip of the Peninsula and provides spectacular views of
the coastline, more than a thousand different floral species and a wealth of
wildlife. It also contains a number of beautiful walking routes (25 minutes from
us)
* Wine Routes. We are only about 15 minutes from the estates which make up the
Constantia Wine Route and includes the oldest wine estate in the country, Groot
Constantia. We are also only about 40 minutes from
Stellenbosch which is
considered by many to be the heart of South Africa's winelands. Its wine route
comprises a huge number of beautiful estates, original homes and cellars. You
can sample fine wines in stunning gardens surrounded by the magnificent
mountains. There is also a very good private lion park just outside Stellenbosch
and a vast range of restaurants to choose from. We are always happy to recommend
what we think are the loveliest estates to visit.
* Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. We are only about 20 minutes from these
wonderful gardens, located on the side of
Table Mountain and which are known
throughout the world for their fantastic beauty and diversity of plants and
birdlife: almost 7,000 species of indigenous plants are found here, many of
which are unique to the slopes of the mountain .It's also possible to take one
of the walking routes from the gardens to the top of the mountain (strenuous but
great fun) and if you are in Cape Town during the summer months DO NOT MISS the marvelous concerts which take place in the Gardens every Sunday afternoon:
locals get there early with and enjoy their picnics with friends on the grass of
the natural ampitheatre as the sun sets behind the mountain....something it is
difficult to beat
* Boulders Beach Penguin colony. Only about ten minutes from us is Boulders
Beach, just the other side of the historic town of Simonstown, which is home to
several thousand African Penguins and some of the loveliest beaches, especially
for small children. Where else in the world would you expect to be able to swim
and paddle with penguins?
These are just a few examples of what you might like to in and around Noodhoek
but the list of possibilities is almost endless and , in the case of whale
watching and enjoying the fabulous Spring wildflower Reserves, can also be
seasonal. Almost every sporting activity is available close by, from bird
watching to surfing and scuba diving to hot air ballooning and golf. So if you
have a particular interest or an idea for having one of those "once-in-a-lifetime"
experiences, we will be happy to try and organize this for you.
* Other Services. We are happy to undertake airport transfers and organize car
hire for our guests through a very good deal we have developed with National
Alamo which gives our guests very considerable discounts on the normal published
rates of the big car hire companies. We offer a full Internet facilities and can
undertake laundry as well as a range of other activities.
