majestic Waterberg meets the beautiful Bushveld. Gnu Ranch is spread over 3500ha
of savannah, hills, luscious bushveld, grass plains and bird rich wetlands. We
strive to make our quests feel at home and enjoy the tranquil setting as if it
were their own. Relax and enjoy the diverse wildlife, topography and activities
we offer in this malaria free bush paradise with your family, friends or
colleagues.
Rock lodge:
The lodge has two separate thatched units, built from the surrounding rocks.
Each unit has three bedrooms opening onto a private patio all with en-suite
bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen opening onto a covered deck with a
spectacular view and an intimate rock boma to enjoy the music of the Bushveld
nightlife around a cosy fire. When the game seek shade under the big Marula and
Wild fig trees in the heat of day, the deck surrounding the elevated rock pool
is the ideal place to enjoy the sunshine, or relax in the communal lodge around
the pool table or dstv.
Tree Top Cabin:
Ideal for a romantic getaway or quality time with family and friends. Built in
the branches of a huge Tamboti tree, it surely is the ultimate regarding privacy
and uniqueness. The two bedroom cabin has a private swimming pool, intimate
fireplace, fully equipped kitchen and a deck overlooking a bird rich wetland.
Any birdwatcher's dream!
Farmhouse:
The isolated old-style farmhouse is very popular with big family groups. The
house has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a lounge
coplete with inside fire and TV (bring your decoder). Splash in the private
swimming pool to escape the Bushveld heat, and end an exiting day around a
crackling fire in the huge rock boma built under a massive Marula tree. Three
additional bedrooms outside the house is also available for big groups. The camp
is exclusively booked for only one group at a time.
Tree top tent:
The luxury tent is a true Bushveld experience. You will never get closer to
nature... in luxury and ultimate privacy! The elevated chalet type tent has a
king size bed, air-conditioner, en-suite bathroom, equipped kitchen and cosy
braai area. Enjoy the spectacular view from the front deck, equipped with a gas
braai and outside shower. Spoil your over-worked body in the outside spa bath.
Bush Cottage:
Our first 'green' solar powered cottage is built in the shade of massive Tamboti
trees. The thatched cottage has two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom
with outside shower, braai area and small splash pool. The watering-hole fifty
meters away normally attracts plenty of animals late afternoon.
Wildlife:
The 3500ha ranch is home to 21 species of plains game like Kudu, Eland, Gemsbuck,
Hartebeest, Zebra, Bluewildebeest, Waterbuck, Reedbuck, Bushbuck, Blesbuck etc.
When the sun sets over the Waterberg, predators like Leopard, Cheetah, crocodile
and Hyena often leave their tracks in the pathways to remind us of their
presence. We are also part of the De Wild cheetah management program.
Activities on-site:
- Game viewing - We offer game-drives on a open Land-cruiser
seating 10 people, alternatively drive around in your own vehicle at your
own time. You will receive a map of the ranch on arrival.
- Fishing - Bring your tackle box and try your luck at Bass, Kurper
or Karp in any of our dams, or bring your boat and fish at Mokolo dam, the
biggest dam in Limpopo and a fly-fishing hotspot.
- Hiking - Our vast diversity of topography makes for excellent
hikes.
- Trails - The map provided on arrival will lead you on exiting
hiking, 4x4 and bike trials.
