A small intimate lodge on a working apple and livestock farm, situated in the
Ash River Conservancy, with river frontage and spectacular views. 16 km from
Bethlehem, and 22 km from Clarens (off the R 712).
If peace and tranquility is what you are looking for, far enough from the
madding crowd, yet close enough to good shopping and medical facilities, and a
myriad of things to do and places to see... then Foxhill Lodge is your
destination.
The Lodge sleeps 8 people in 4 double en-suite units. 1 unit is fully contained
and self-catering, while the other 3 units share kitchen and living-room
facilities. Rooms are serviced daily. Although the lodge is a self-catering
facility, we do cater for small conferences, functions and workshops. We will
gladly tailor-make packages to suit our clients' needs.
A number of walking, hiking and mountain-bike trails have been mapped out, as
well as guided rock art trails. Our guests can enjoy easy walks and grassland
ambles, where a variety of game and birds can be viewed a t close quarters. The
use of motorbikes, quad-bikes and 4X4's is not encouraged on "Merino". Guided
day and night drives are provided to guests who are interested. The clear open
spaces lend themselves to awesome star-gazing delights - especially in the
winter months.
As "Merino" lies within a conservancy area, we are in the process of eradicating
alien invader plants, and have to-date planted in excess of 600 indigenous
trees. Most of the indigenous fauna and flora have been mapped, photographed and
catalogued. We apply the concept of eco-friendly "green" living and farming
practices.

- 16 km from Bethlehem for supplies, art galleries, museums, day-spa's,
and restaurants.
- World-class medical facilities (including air ambulance services) in
Bethlehem.
- 25 km from Lion's Rock Big Cat Sanctuary.
- 22 km from Clarens for shops, galleries, restaurants, and tons of other
entertainment.
- 30 minutes drive to Golden Gate National Park.
- 10 minutes' drive to the Ash River Outfall, Bethlehem Hydro Scheme and
Saulspoort Hydro Scheme (all on the Ash River).
- 45 minutes' drive from Basotho Cultural Village near Golden Gate
National Park.
- Moluti art and cultural route runs the entire length of the Eastern Free
State.
- 90 minutes' drive fro Sterkfontein Dam.
- 15 minutes' drive from Bethlehem airport for light aircraft and
helicopter charter.
