in Fouriesburg, Northern & Eastern Free State,
Free State, South Africa
With and endless canvas of wide-open skies, majestic sandstone cliffs and
rolling hills, this part of the Free State more than lives up to its reputation
as the jewel of the Eastern Free State.
Getting away from it all - Fairview Estates lies at the end of a 19km valley,
described by some as the most beautiful valley in the Eastern Free State. This
farm is situated between
Fouriesburg and the very popular, proudly South African
town of
Clarens. The surrounding sandstone cliffs, together with magnificent
views of the Maluti Mountains offer our guests the opportunity to experience the
beauty of the Eastern Free State at its finest.
Fairview Estates offer our guests three different accommodation possibilities:
The secluded
De Rust Farm Cottage, the converted grain silos called the Twin
Towers and then the interesting converted caravan on the wall of one of our dams
called the Damn Caravan.
This working farm offers the guest 4 rainbow trout dams to fly fish from as well
as a spring fed weir system stocked with the elusive brown trout. This farm has
a rich history with regards to the Boer War, as women of the area and their
livestock fled from the enemy and took refuge in the overhanging caves, situated
on Fairview Estates. Quite a few Bushmen drawings were also found on the
sandstone overhangs on this farm.
For the more active guests we offer a demanding Mountain Bike Trail of 26km with
more tracks coming soon. The 3500 hectares of farmland and mountains are there
for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking or just to discover your own little
paradise - like the stream with a succession of whirlpools that continue for
more than a kilometer - popularly known as the farms own Potholes.Guests from
all over find it interesting to experience this working farm, especially with
the mesmerizing, unique alpacas grazing freely on the farm. Fairview Estates
also farm with Bonsmara stud cattle and we also plant maize and beans. As an
extra bonus this farm experiences regular snowfalls during the cooler months
right up to September.
Lesotho's border is only 40 km away and guests frequently visit the interesting
Katse Dam as well as Afri-Ski. Other popular activities in the area: Golfing and
shopping in Clarens as well as white water river rafting.
All of the above offer the elements for the ideal weekend breakaway. Fairview
