Nestled between two mountain ranges in the fertile Olifants River Valley, you
will find Citrusdal at the foothills of the world famous Cederberg Mountain
Range. This bustling rural village, set amongst lush green citrus orchards, is 1
and half hours drive from Cape Town on the N7 to or from Namibia. It is ideally
situated to use as base from where you can explore the magnificent Cederberg,
visit the West Coast, or take day trips into the wild flower splendour of
Namaqualand.
The Resort
Elephant Leisure Resort is only 7 km away from Citrusdal and with its Unique
setting and wonderful views over Cederberg Mountain range and Sneeuberg
concervancy which is covered in snow in winter creates a relaxing and calming
atmosphere that welcomes the weary traveler. The swimming pool is fed with the
spring water borehole that provides the water for the resort conforms to
European standards for mineral water. The borehole of 87m delivers 11700 litre
of water at a temperature of 28 - 30 °C, all under its own natural pressure. Due
to the fact that the water is forced through a calcium formation under its own
pressure, there is no need for pumps or filters. By the time the water reaches
the top it is sparkling clean. The resort is situated in a wide valley between
beautiful mountains with an excellent opportunity to explore the mountain side
with its weird rock formations covered in lichen and over 850 Fynbos species
that attracts hundreds of bird species.
Cottages
There are 10 chalets of which 4 are two bedroom (en suite) with sitting area in
kitchen with gas fireplace (need to buy gas from the Resort) and 6 are one
bedroom open plan units all with double doors that open onto the Terrace which
is perfect spot for sundowners, to light up a braai or do Stargazing from your
private Jacuzzi. In the morning you can take your breakfast outside into the
country air and experience the superabundance of bird life which include
visiting Egyptian geese, blue crane, veroux eagle and other visitors to the
indigenous natural Fynbos mountains that include sugar birds, butterflies,
dragon flies and many more. There is also a Reed dam with weaver birds further
up the the winding gravel road.
The Self catering cottages where you can be 100% independent and experience
awesome silence. The units with its walls in sandy colours are created to
promote relaxation, spaciousness, light, wellness. The units are all fully
equipped with cotton bedding, TV (channel 1, 2, 3, Video and MNET), gas
fireplace, air-conditioner(s) as well as a kitchenette with microwave, toaster,
kettle, electric frying pan etc.
Every chalet has its private 4 seater Jacuzzi under the veranda with Panoramic
views over Mountains and river valley. The chalets are all private.
A lovely lounge/dining room area, spacious outdoor terrace with a barbecue area
at the spring water swimming pool complements this wonderful setting.
Activities
If your needs are to escape the city live and be private with time to read,
write, have a therapeutic massage in the Jacuzzi or have long afternoon siestas
then Elephant Leisure Resort is for you. There is also a jungle gym for your
kids and a swimming pool for your needs to escape from the little ones. You can
bring your hiking boots and explore the amazing Cape Floral Kingdom with its
abundance of Fynbos and weird rock formations. In town there are also Quad bike
hire and paint ball, Horse riding, 4x4 trails options or go into town for a
round of golf. Regarding scenic routes – you can either explore the eastern side
of the Cederberg mountains with abundance of hiking trails, bushmen paintings
and swim areas(plan for the whole day) or head of via circle route to the West
coast via Lamberts Bay past Elandsbay and back via Eendekuil over
Piekenierskloof Pass – highly recommended is a visit to Muisbosskerm which is
just outside Lamberts Bay.
You can either have breakfast at the Resort (please book in advance as we only
provide this service on request) or you can drive into Citrusdal village and
have breakfast at the famous “via the grapevine” coffee shop and at night time
you have a choice of either dining at Olifantsrus Guest house or visit “Die
