Haga-Haga is a small picturesque village set on the warm shores of the Indian Ocean. It offers visitors a wide range of outdoor activities - good fishing, surfing, snorkeling, shell collecting, walking trails, tennis, golf and horse riding. For the less energetic there is an excellent library, little museum with displays, photos and information pertaining to the fauna, flora, shells and local beadwork. Haga-Haga has a very rich selection of marine and land flora and fauna, the conservation of which is the main objective of our conservancy. The conservancy lies between the Nyara and Quko Rivers. The whales visit our shores from July to early December and give us many hours of pleasure. The dolphins are seen almost daily.
There are several new walks & trails: Krantz Flower Walk to Pullins Bay (3kms), Whale Point, Lagoon Look-Out and Otter Creek Walk. There is a longer more energetic 10km hike from the Main Beach to Double Mouth where it is possible to pick up pieces of Ming China and Cornelian Beads washed up from a sunken ship.
This is a Malaria free area.
Flora
Over a period of four years at least 300 species of indigenous wildflowers have been positively identified. As many as 300 are still in need of identification (on videotape).
Great finds include: Scadoxus membraneceus, Eulophia streptopetala. Many different wild irises, gladiolus, hibiscus and orchids are to be seen.
Birds
Most of the Haga-Haga residents are keen birders. A list of over 240 birds has been compiled. In our coastal forest Nerina Trogons, Long Crested Eagles, Forest Weavers, Woodpeckers can be seen. Along the shores/rocks/lagoon areas the rare African Black Oyster Catchers is a regular sighting. Water Dikkops, Greenshanks, Kingfishers and many Plover species can be seen. Listen for the call of our Fish Eagles.
Haga-Haga has a Hotel, Library, Little Museum/Info Centre, Game Farm, Tennis Club & Golf Course, Horse Riding, Lagoon, beautiful beach, good rock fishing and shells to collect.
Facilities:
- Golf, horse riding and tennis are all available within 2kms
- Scuba diving on-site
