Along the road less traveled and nestled in the southern tip of the
Drakensberg lies the quaint village of Rhodes. It is easy to fall in love with
the charm & tranquility of a Village that has been declared a National Heritage
Site. With its 85 odd buildings including the post office, library & church, one
is transported back to a time when there was time..
Dog's Folly is conveniently situated in the "main" gravel road, Muller Street &
opposite the heartbeat of Rhodes, the Rhodes Hotel. With its wooden flooring,
original doors & sash windows, you relive the old world charm combined with the
comfort of modern luxuries.
The house, formerly known to locals as 'Chappies', has 4 bedrooms. One bedroom
boasts one queen bed & one single bed, two rooms have queen beds and the last
room has two single beds. Each is fitted with electrical blankets. Warm belfoire
blankets are stored in a blanket box at the foot of each bed whilst toile quilts
provide a cover for those slightly chilly nights. Panel heaters are installed
throughout to take the edge off during snow filled winters.
In the lounge the original fireplace stands proud & is a reminder of how many a
folk have warmed up in its presence. A DStv bouquet with 10 channels is available.
The dining room seats 8 guests comfortably. The kitchen has a gas hob,
convection oven, toaster, microwave, kettle & large fridge/freezer. All basic
cutlery & utensil needs are met.
Three bathrooms can be found at the back of the house, each with large walk-in
showers & luxuriously big shower heads. An old style enamel baby bath & stand
are available for bathing babies.
The house is serviced daily & laundry can be done at a small fee.
Skiing:
Rhodes is famous for hosting hundreds of skiers during winter. Only 20km away
from Tiffendell it provides a warm & welcome haven to those visitors who want a
local experience on their skiing holiday. Shuttle services can be arranged with
locals in Rhodes.
Fly fishing:
During summer time, the rivers & streams in the area are fed by the endless
surrounding gigantic mountains as they collect rainwater. Rainbow and Brown
trout as well as Yellowfish are favourites amongst local fly fishers. Wild Trout
Association waters range at altitudes from 1400m to over 2500m above sea-level.
Pubs:
To wind down after a day on the water what better way than at a watering hole! A
good one can be found at the Rhodes Hotel where a traditional beauty of a pub
awaits. Seating from different eras are scattered in the pub & the green walls
are adorned with antique ski's, tools & hunting trophies. Another famous
watering hole can be found at Walkerbouts Inn where two fat platannas & a couple
of fish keep an eye on your drinks. The pub's walls are covered in historic
newspaper cuttings and serves as a great read.
4x4 Trails:
Breathtaking 4x4 trails in the area includes Naude's Nek at 6300FT, Wartrail &
Lundeans Nek.
Tennis:
The municipal tennis courts are situated on your doorstep. Fees can be paid at
the Rhodes Hotel.
Activities in the area include:

- Restaurant & pub facilities at the Rhodes Hotel & Walkerbouts Inn.
- 2 Local crafts shops, The Red Barn in the village & the gallery just
outside Rhodes at the Tiffendell base station.
