The cottage and property is situated 5kms out of Underberg village in the
Scotston Valley and is bounded by the Umzimkulu River and Scotston Road.
The 4-bedroom cottage has 15 beds and is fully equipped for self catering
including all linen and bedding as well as towels. Three of the bedrooms have a
double and a single bed in and the 4th room has a double bed and 2 double bunks.
DSTV is available but tenants need to bring their own cards and in some cases their decoder as well. There is also a
DVD/CD player available in the cottage.
The area is extremely safe and very peaceful, being surrounded by farms and
mountains. There is a file in the cottage with various pamphlets suggesting the
attractions in the area such as Sani Pass tours (passport needed) and other
attractions such as the Cheese factory, road trips etc. ask the caretaker for
any other information. 3 canoes are also available for use on the river.
The Umzimkulu River is ideal for fishing (trout), swimming, canoeing and tubing
as well as being a bird watchers paradise with plenty of scenic photographic
opportunities. A number of otters live in the river and can sometimes be seen on
the banks foraging and sunning themselves. Walking is a popular evening
past-time and there are many different animals to be seen on the farms and in
the grasslands and you will often meet other walkers who are very friendly.
Underberg is a very friendly old country type of village with many coffee shops
and restaurants run by local residents always willing to have a chat and help
you enjoy your stay in the area. There are also a number of supermarkets and
specialist shops as well for you to stock up on all your requirements and
supplies.
