Clarens Retreat has undergone refurbishment by its new owners, an engineer and flower grower from England and is fast becoming one of the prettiest and best located guesthouses within Clarens.

The Retreat offers superb, versatile accommodation which is elegant, practical, and has a touch of British quirkiness! Our attention to detail will ensure you are able to relax from the moment you arrive! The patio areas are shaded with beautiful hand-built canopies modeled on the fine oak joinery reminiscent of England - a place to rest, relax, spend time with friends and family whilst enjoying the peace of the pretty garden or courtyard.

Ideally situated between the established village square and the emerging lower centre of the village, Clarens Retreat is within the shortest walk to any of the village attractions, shops, restaurants and galleries. Perfect for groups who wish to undertake differing activities without the need for a car! With our drive coming directly from Main Street, we offer easy access for any type of vehicle and sufficient, safe parking within the confines of
the property.

Set in its large, safe garden the Retreat offers beautiful views into the mountains. There are three separate Retreat units enabling us to cater for two people up to groups of ten. Our site is ideal for extended family holidays, groups of couples or larger groups of friends wanting to enjoy time together.

Retreat No. 1

Our largest Retreat has undergone complete re-decoration and caters for six guests in three bedrooms, each with twin beds fitted with electric blankets. All the bedrooms offer breathtaking views across the orchard to the mountains. There are two full bathrooms, one being ensuite. The large kitchen offers excellent catering facilities together with an eating area additional to the main dining room. The lounge is both spacious and comfortable with sliding doors to the upgraded covered patio and braai area. Large windows offer unobscured mountain views. An open fire woodburning stove ensures the cosiest of evenings when the mountain air turns cool. A television is available for guests who bring their own DSTV card. Fresh coffee, Tea and Biscuits are provided on arrival. We supply all bedlinen and towels. The Retreat is serviced daily (a few exceptions!).

Retreats No 2 and No 3

Our smaller Retreats have undergone complete refurbishment and provide additional bedrooms for larger groups using Retreat 1. Each retreat offers twin beds with electric blankets, shower rooms, Hand-built kitchenette (Microwave, Toaster, Kettle, Fridge) and braai facilities. Each flat opens onto the pretty English-style Courtyard over which the hand-built canopy provides beautiful dappled shade. Dedicated parking is provided within the gated driveway. A radiator is provided for use when the evenings turn cool! Fresh coffee, Tea and Biscuits are provided on arrival. We provided towels and bedlinen. The Retreats are serviced daily.

Clarens is known both as the 'Adventure Capital' and the 'Jewel in the FreeState'. People visit to enjoy an adrenaline rush, to take in the beautiful surroundings and art galleries - and sometimes both. There are hiking trails around the village. Golden Gate National Park is less than 20km away, whilst the more adventurous can bring their passports and visit Lesotho.
