BLESFONTEIN GUEST FARM
Self Catering Flatlet Accommodation
in Sutherland, Hantam Karoo & Upper Karoo,
Northern Cape, South Africa
- "Thank You, Nicol and Marina, this was the best vacation of my life!"
- "My children wants to know when are we going to visit Blesfontein again.
We couldn't imagine our city kids to love a farm vacation so much!" and
- "Thanks a lot for the privilege to spend our honeymoon in your cow shed!
We're now more in love than ever!"
These are extracts from the numerous e-mail comments we receive from
satisfied visitors.
Then, of course, there are comments like:
- "Not exactly what we had in mind for our honeymoon - too quiet and not
much to do!" and
- "the road to your farm is very bad, why didn't you warn us to come in
the 4X4?,"
but, surprisingly enough, also:
- "Hi, Nicol! Thanks for a lovely stay! Your star show was wonderful! Even
in our Uno, the road was not as bad as they say - probably just a matter of
the right mind set."
Since 2000, when the first 2 self catering units was opened on Blesfontein,
we made a lot of friends, we laughed with many happy families, we celebrated
many 40th birthdays, we cried with many broken hearts and, in the process, we
learned so much about life, but most of all, we learned how thankful we must be
for living on this farm.
Blesfontein is situated 28 km South West of Sutherland. We offer 9 fully
equipped self catering units. Each self catering unit has an inside- and outside
fire place for cooking or to enjoy the heat of a cosy "kaggel"- fire in Winter.
The kitchens are equipped with electric- and/or gas stoves. Our most popular
unit is the Honeymoon Cow Shed. Most of the units were stone built stables,
which we converted into rather unique accommodation units. The others were old
farm buildings, converted for convenience, without losing their character.
Dinner and breakfast is served on prior arrangement. At night, Nicol takes our
visitors for stargazing in our amature observatory. During the day the freedom
of the farm is yours to enjoy. Bring your own 4x4 or hire ours to take a scenic
drive to the view point at the escarpment. On the way you may see Blesbuck,
Zebra, Springbuck, Grey Rheebuck, Steenbok and Black Wildebeest, not to mention
the Meercat family, the Tortoises, the Skunks and several bird species.
On the farm yard your children can bottle feed lambs (when in season) and pet
our tame Springbuck, Bambi. They can collect eggs, ride their mountain bikes,
swim in the farm dam, meet our small Alpaca herd or milk the goat, Bella. In the
unlikely event of Karoo rain, or when you are trapped in a snowstorm, you can
play table tennis, watch Television or play board games in our communal dining
room.
And take a well deserved break in your search for meaning.
