Places of interest nearby:
- Kalk Bay Harbour:
Watch the fishing boats bring home their catch. You can
purchase fresh, gutted and cleaned fish from the vendors. Take a stroll along
the harbour wall and have a seafood meal at any one of the restaurants in the
harbour. Whales can often be seen close to the wall. (Watch out for big waves
during bad weather).
- Kalk Bay Food & Shopping District:
There is a strong focus on food in the
village, with an emphasis on seafood. There are many excellent restaurants &
deli's to choose from - along with some good wine shops thrown in for good
measure. The main road also offers an interesting combination of antique stores,
second-hand bookshops and art galleries.
- Local Theatres:
Keep an eye on our local newspapers for information on current
productions or call Kalk Bay Theatre (Main Road, Kalk Bay) on Tel: 788 7257 or The Masque Theatre
(Main Road, Muizenberg) on Tel: 788 1898
- Kalk Bay Outdoors:
Danger Beach is a small sandy beach between Kalk Bay and St
James, within walking distance from the apartment. There is a fairly strong
current so do take care when swimming. It has a relaxed, local atmosphere. St
James Beach, with its colourful beach boxes and tidal pool, is very popular with
young families.
For those who love to walk, the hills around
Kalk Bay offer good hiking. (Please
ensure that you are adequately prepared before setting out!) Scuba diving, water
sports, fishing, caving, boat trips and golf courses are all available nearby.
- Neighbouring villages:
Other neighbouring villages are a must to visit. Fish Hoek has an excellent beach for swimming and surfing and is a paradise for
children. The historic naval base at Simon's Town & penguin colony at
Boulders Beach are worth a full days visit.
Further south, is the Cape Point Nature
Reserve, ostrich farm and wine farm. In the other direction, Constantia's famous
vineyards are only a 15-minute drive away while the city of Cape Town,
Table
Mountain and the vibrant
V&A Waterfront are about 45 minutes away by car. There
is easy access from Kalk Bay to the
Wine lands along scenic coastal Baden Powell
Drive, which links directly into the R44 road to Paarl &
Franschhoek.

stores (Woolworths Food Store and Pick 'n Pay supermarket) are located 5 minutes
