The two houses are positioned on the dune overlooking "Praia da Barra" (Barra
Bay & Beach) and Flamingo Bay, situated approx 300m from the beach with a 180
degree view of the Inhambane estuary, mangrove swamps and the tranquil warm blue
water of the Indian Ocean in Barra Bay.
The district boasts one of the largest plantations of palm trees worldwide and
this vegetation combined with the endless pristine beaches and sparkling clear
ocean, give this stretch of the peninsula a taste of that balmy island fever.
Our accommodation comprises of two spacious four bedroom homes with four double
beads each, comfortably accommodating eight couples, there is one double bunk
for small children. there are six bathrooms with showers, five on suite. The two
fully equipped kitchens have plenty refrigeration and freezing space. The large
open plan kitchens are a get together place for the whole family, leading onto
open plan lounge areas. Two huge thatched verandas with comfortable outdoor
furniture, gas braai facilities and the most incredible views of the beach, the
bay, the peninsula, the mangroves and the most incredible African sun setting
over the coconut plantations.
Guests have full and free access and use of the stunning pool, bar and
restaurant facilities at Sunset Lodge. Sit in the pool while enjoying one of the
"Thirsty Parrots" famous cocktails. Enjoy from a hamburger to a scrumptious
seafood platter in the open air restaurant area, all of this while enjoying the
stunning views over the bay area.
There are many local vendors who will source and supply you with seafood
(prawns, calamari, mussels, oysters, fresh fish and crayfish/langoustines) at
very reasonable prices as well as freshly baked bread, bread rolls and seasonal
fruits, this can be arranged through the staff attending to your house. There is
a market in Inhambane where most fresh produce and fruit can be purchased, there
is also a fully stocked liquor store and frozen imported meat is available from
selected suppliers. Curios are plentiful, many vendors selling sarongs, artwork
and wooden carvings . We do request of guests to help protect the ocean and not
to purchase the shells.
The two houses are fully serviced, water is supplied from our own borehole and
is 100% safe to drink. The houses are fully electrified with a gas stove and
oven. A security guard patrols the houses and looks after the vehicles during
the night. A management couple are on site to welcome you and assist with any
requirements.
The houses are situated 20 km from Inhambane, on the Praia du Barra Road, the
last ten km is a dirt road, the final 1km access onto the property is a soft
sandy road - 4 x 4 vehicles are recommended, although certain makes of cars or
2x4 LDV will be able to get onto the property, but will have to park at the work
shop 50 mtrs away from the houses, 4x4's can park at the front door of the
houses. Guests are advised to deflate their tyres to 1 bar at the beginning of
the road to avoid getting stuck.
