Avoca Lodge is nestled in a quiet and rural part of Benoni 13 km's away from
O.R. Tambo International Airport (previously Johannesburg International). The
owner Michelle Smith has created a contemporary ambience in a tranquil country
setting, which will delight and surprise one, while the fabulous home made fare
will ensure ones stay is remembered long after departure.
Mandy and Sebastian are the wonderful, hospitable hosts who run Avoca Lodge.
They live on the property and overseas visitors will experience the uniqueness
of sharing a day in the life of a South African household.
Accommodation
The lodge offers 4 types of accommodation.
There are two double rooms, both with en suite bathroom / showers. They have
their own private entrance; ensuring guests can come and go as they please. Each
room has their own television and fridge along with a complimentary tea, coffee
and home made biscuits. The fridges are stocked with beer, carbonated soft
drinks, fruit juice and bottled water.
The Courtyard Room has a double bed with en-suite shower.
The Fountain Room has 2 x 3/4 bed with en-suite bath / shower
The Aloe and Cycad Rooms are based in the main house with a shared bath /
shower.
Additionally, there is the newly built Cottage. This is a fully furnished two
bed roomed apartment comprising of the "Lilly Room" (Queen Bed) and upstairs,
the "Studio" Room (two x ¾ Beds). The Cottage also consists of a lounge, dinning
area, kitchen and bathroom / shower. The Cottage is ideal for business
colleagues, families requiring self-catering and Honeymooners.
Facilities
Guests are welcome to utilize the swimming pool and veranda area. The Lodge
provides secure undercover parking and airport transfers are available.
Breakfast & Dining
House breakfast is served daily and guests can choose from three delightful
venues. Enjoy your fruit salad and yogurt on the patio overlooking the
neighboring horses, ostriches and guinea fowl. Or take your Eggs, bacon,
sausages and tomato (infused with home grown Rosemary) into the French courtyard
or stay in your room and enjoy all the above including toast, homemade jam and
tea or coffee.
Evening meals are served on request at reasonable rates and we strive to
accommodate individual requirements within reason. Should you have any specific
dietary requirements we would appreciate your recipes.
Attractions and Activities
If you need to exert some energy after lazing around in the hammocks by the pool
you can walk down the road to Koi Mecca. This has a Silver Smith shop on site
with unique products made from South American silver.
