Areena Riverside Resort is one of the best-kept secrets of the Eastern Cape,
on the southern gateway of the Cape Wild Coast. Experience 3 Star self catering
accommodation, either in lovely thatched rondavels, luxury cottages or exquisite
timber chalets.
Our 350-hectare property nestles deep in a natural valley along the Kwelegha
tidal river. By water - using a canoe, your own motorboat, or our cruiser - the
mouth is 5kms away, through an un-spoilt indigenous valley where a quiet,
pristine beach awaits. By car, the beaches are a mere four-minute drive away.
Back at the resort, children and adults alike spend hours fishing, crabbing,
canoeing and swimming. The resort is well sheltered from the wind, and a safe,
fun-filled environment for children. We have a large split-level swimming pool,
tennis court, 3 trampolines, volleyball area and a kiddie's playground. Areena
Quays is a fully licensed restaurant and pub at the river's edge, with an
a-la-carte menu and big screen TV, open from Wednesday to Sunday. An
entertainment program is arranged over the Easter weekend and during the
Christmas Season, from about the 19th December until about the 3rd January. The
Areena Adventure Village offers an exciting range of activities from mild to
wild - like abseiling at our stunning 50m site, archery, pellet gun target
shooting, paintball, bow-hunting, hiking trails and guided quad bike trails
though our game park, where you get close to various species of buck, zebra,
wildebeest, ostriches and giraffe. Deep sea fishing, micro lighting and beach
horse trails can also be arranged.
Each of our self catering units have fully-equipped kitchens, a queen size bed,
one bathroom and their own private braai area. We supply bed linen, and bath
towels are available for hire should you forget to bring your own.
The three rondavels are an open-plan design with a queen size bed downstairs and
single beds in a loft room upstairs, sleeping from 4 to 6 people. Cottage 1 is a
two-bed roomed unit which can sleep 4, while Cottages 2 and 3 each have three
bedrooms and can sleep up to 8 people. These cottages are equipped with TV's and
DStv decoders, but guests need to bring their own DStv cards along. Due to our
location, television reception is best via satellite.
Cottage 4 and 5 are airy, thatched, open-plan units with an en-suite bathroom
downstairs, and single beds in a loft room leading from the lounge, sleeping up
to 6 people.
Four timber chalets are set on the banks of the river, a few hundred meters from
the main hub of the resort. They are exquisitely furnished and offer a truly
peaceful riverside stay. Each chalet has two bedrooms, comfortably accommodating
4 people. TV's and DStv decoders are in each lounge (remember to bring your own
DStv card) although the covered timber deck facing the river will compete with
even your favorite TV program!
For the avid outdoors folk, 150 caravan/tent sites - many along the riverbank -
are well grassed and shady, each with 15-20 amp electrical outlets and water
taps. Sparkling-clean ablution blocks are placed within easy reach from each
site.
