Alkantrant Nature Reserve is a 2100 hectare private reserve in the northern
Waterberg, Limpopo. Accommodation provided in two very comfortable self-catering
and self-service camps. Full catering available at request. We encourage our
guests to enjoy the peace and quite of the bush and to reconnect with nature by
enjoying a walk, bush drive or observing wildlife from a hide/ tree house/koppie
in the wilderness. Visit us for a truly unique bushveld experience.
Accommodation
Uitkoms Camp at the main homestead, is situated in a beautiful and tranquil
indigenous garden with six double en-suite rooms (thatch and brick buildings).
Four rooms with 3 single beds each. Two bigger rooms with two single beds and 1
king-size bed each. En-suite bathrooms with shower, basin & toilet. Fans in
rooms. Fully equipped enclosed kitchen/ dining room with outside braai area, 15
metres from the sleeping units. Electric fridges, microwave and gas burner.
Splash pool with view over open veld where game may often be seen. Wooden deck
overlooking seasonal dam 50 metres from camp. Electricity. Cell phone reception.
No parties, music or noise.
Grootbos bush camp situated at the foot of sandstone hills 3km's from the
main homestead offers peace and comfort in the bush. Fully equipped enclosed
kitchen/dining room with gas fridge/freezer and burner. Thatched lapa with
outside braai area. Five sleeping units each containing two single beds. Outside
bathrooms consist of two showers with basin and three toilets with basin.
(thatch and treated wood buildings). Solar power for lights, "donkie" for hot
water. No electricity. No cellphone reception.
Recycling bins for waste provided in each camp. All organic waste used in
composting for vegetable garden.
Wildlife
There is a profusion of wildlife with many game species including giraffe,
waterbuck, eland, kudu zebra, blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, mountain
reedbuck, impala, bushbuck, nyala, duiker, warthog, steenbok, klipspringer,
dassies...
Some of the more elusive animals include leopard, brown hyena, caracal, genets,
African wildcat, civet, honey badger, bush pig, aardwolf, aardvark, porcupine...
250+ bird species - breeding pair Verreaux's Eagle, see their nest - Giant eagle
owl, hear their calls, Woodlands kingfisher, Woodpeckers, Crimson-breasted
shrike, Meyer’s parrot, Red-billed oxpecker. Full list available on request.
The seasonal dam just east of Uitkoms Camp provides a perfect habitat for –
African spoonbill, Hamerkop, Spur-winged goose, Egyptian goose, Comb duck,
White-faced duck, Red-billed teal, Green shank and a big range of frogs during
the summer.
150+ tree species - hug a big baobab, marula, lavender tree, rock fig, corkwood,
wooden banana, monkey orange, paper bark, leadwood… Full list available on

Activities
Short cleared trails around the camps, 1-3km.
Tree trail: 1km circular trail at Grootbos Bush camp – 80 different tree species
marked with botanical number, list of numbers with names provided.
Guided wilderness hiking/rock scrambling and bush drives by arrangement only, at
extra cost.
Transfers to points of interest by arrangement only, at extra cost.
Points of interest: pick nick spot at seasonal waterfall, iron age rain ritual
site, Verreaux's eagle nest, Tierkoppie with 360 degree views, escarpment
look-out...
Guests issued with two-way radios for communication with main homestead.
All roads and waypoints on the Reserve are listed with Tracks 4 Africa.
Printed maps of the Reserve, indicating roads, trails and points of interest,
available from the office.
