Having grown wine grapes for over three decades, it was only in 2002 that Pat Busch and his family started making their own handmade red wines.

In 2001 Pat Busch converted and restored old outbuildings and the 'Rusticus' Vintage Wine Cellar just outside Robertson in the Western Cape was born. The Busch family restored old antique wine making equipment and machinery in an attempt at making red wines the traditional & natural way, with minimum involvement from modern technology.

Visitors to the cellar, whilst tasting some of the fine RUSTICUS red wines, can literally 'step back in time' and enjoy a cellar tour at the Rusticus Vintage Cellar. Your host will explain how the various pumps and antique equipment are actually used in the process. During harvest time (February to March) you could be lucky enough to see the antique de-stalker and wine press in action.

The name 'RUSTICUS' is a Latin word meaning 'of' or 'belonging to the land'. This ancient translation embodies our inspiration and philosophy to handcraft fine natural wines following traditional methods.

• We are usually open on Public Holidays, except Easter Friday & Christmas Day.
