Maputaland Horse Safaris
Horseback Riding / Horse Trails
in Kosi Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Maputaland is a vast remote and magical place of shimmering lakes, forests, bush and pristine and isolated beaches. It is the tribal land for the Thonga Tembe people. Part of it, a protected area spanning 150 km of coastline, received UNESCO World Heritage Site Status.
Join us on a horse safari riding from camp to camp and go where vehicles cannot go. It is the best way to discover nature, adventure and the culture. We will take you on long 8 day trails, shorter 3 day trail riding or you can go on outrides from our comfortable base camp.
Alternate riding with other activities like swimming with dolphins, snorkeling, scuba diving, canoeing, visit Tembe Elephant Reserve and lots more.
Maputaland Bush Camp & Horse Safaris is small and can accommodate only groups of 2-8 persons in a house and a few on-suite chalets.
Do not expect the luxuries of civilized home. It is a bush camp. Solar panels provide enough lights at night. When essential a generator can supply a few hours of electricity per day. Warm water for showers is heated in a “donkey” (a big round drum on open fire). The shower is a bucket with showerhead attached hoisted into a tree. You need a 4WD to reach us or we can transfer you from town to us.
The trail riding from camp to camp needs to be booked well in advance. There are four possible overnight camps. Custom trails can be designed according to your specifications.
