The 160ha nature farm is owned by Kolobe Estates and situated just 8km north
of Nylstroom) on the Driefontein road.
Nearly every 2 Kilometres in the Rietspruit a dam can be found. This ample water
supply has an irresistible attraction for water birds and birds like finches too
nest on branches overhanging the water. The sound of running water has in itself
a soothing affect in the area.
The mountains and gorges founded millions of years ago through volcanic eruption
and shifts in the earths crust are covered with abnormal dense bushes, scrubs
and trees. Some unique and exceptional huge trees are to be found. This dense
forest is the natural home of a vast area of birds and can be quite a chaos of
sounds, especially during spring and summer when every bird wants to tell the
world that his feathers is the brightest in the world.
Almost every day the triumphant cry of the Fish Eagle can be heard echoing
through the valleys. At least 50 species of birds has been identified by the
personnel on the farm.
Even looking through the satellite eye of Google earth from 4km up the dense
bush can be observed. In this paradise for birds a paradise of shows await the
bird lover.
