Situated in the tranquil Natal Midlands,
Karkloof Canopy Tours offers an unequalled experience gliding along steel cables between eight canopy level platforms built high within the indigenous Karkloof forest.
Safely harnessed in state of the art climbing gear under the close supervision of a professional team of guides, prepare yourself for a Tarzan and Jane adventure that will take you amongst the birds, monkeys, trees and plants of this magnificent forest. Slides of up to 175m long provide unforgettable rides and spectacular views over the forest canopy.
The Karkloof forest is a pristine environment home to several mammals, most common of which is the Samango monkey, abundant bird life with the opportunity of spotting
Knysna loeries, the elusive Narina Trogan or endangered Cape Parrot. Karkloof Canopy Tours offers a unique opportunity to experience the flora and fauna of this paradise from a different perspective.
The tour consists of a kilometre long 'foefie' slide divided up into 8 separate slides of varying lengths. These slides take you from wooden platforms hidden in the tree tops past a sheer cliff face and a cascading waterfall. Sometimes you could be as high up as 35m above the forest canopy!
The system has been designed and constructed by a civil engineer. During the tour two or more trained guides ensure the safety of each group while describing interesting facts about the ecology and life in the forest.
The experience begins with a briefing session at the Karkloof Canopy Tour offices where you will be tutored on the do's and don'ts during the tour. You will also be kitted out with your harness, safety helmet and sliding glove and will be given an opportunity to ask any questions to your guide. After the briefing session you will be transported up the mountain, with a short 30m walk to the first platform where your adventure begins. As you take off on the first slide you will find yourself entering the enchanting new world of the forest.
Tours depart every half an hour from 08h00 to 15h00 daily, and are conducted in most weather conditions.
Suitable for anyone between the ages of 7 and 70. Canopy Tours are great for the whole family, groups and corporate team builds. A maximum of 8 people are taken per group but larger group bookings of up to 120 people per day can be handled.
