KAAPSEHOOP HORSE TRAILS
Horseback Riding / Horse Trails
in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, South Africa
Kaapsehoop Horse Trails is a well-known and idyllic hideaway on the
Drakensberg escarpment, 7 km from the town of Kaapsehoop near Nelspruit in
Mpumalanga.
The Horse Trails were established in 1994 on a 17,000 hectare private concession
on the Berlin forestry plantation of Komatiland.
With 26 years of trail riding experience and well-trained cross-bred horses many
and varied riding conditions are available whether a beginner or an experienced
rider. Rides varies from 1 hour rides, 2 hour or 4-6 hour rides. But this is no
rodeo show, your safety, comfort and enjoyment are our priorities, so both
beginners and experienced riders will quickly feel at ease - all trails are
guided.
For the experienced rider there is also the 3-day wilderness trail which follows
across beautiful grass plains where the blue swallow nests, the most endangered
bird species in the southern hemisphere. Set against breathtaking views over the
Barberton Valley, it is also an area where the wild horses most often frequent.
These wild horses, descendants of the original horses brought by the
gold-miners, have roamed the valleys for more than a hundred years.
For the kids there are the very popular fun-and-education 5-day pony camps where
they are taught social skills and all about horses, caving, hiking and nature.
The camps are suited for children aged 8 - 15 years and beginners are most
welcome.
Booking is essential.
