GORDONS BAY - WINTER WONDERLAND
Festival / Annual Event
in Gordon's Bay, Cape Town,
Western Cape, South Africa
Gordon's Bay Winter Wonderland Festival
29 June to 1 July 2012
The quaint hamlet of Gordon's Bay, nestled against the slopes of the Hottentots
Holland Mountains on the shores of magnificent False Bay just 50 mins from Cape
Town, will once again be transformed into a spectacular Fairyland of lights
during their Gordon's Bay Winter Wonderland Festival from 29 June to 1 July
2012.
A highlight of the event is the Milkwood Trail which will transform into a Fairy
Forest of twinkling white lights - a delight to all - especially to children and
romantic couples (of all ages!) Trees and historic buildings and in the village,
and houses all up the mountain will all light up with sparkling lights, creating
a wonderful spectacle to be seen from afar.
In the village the carnival atmosphere will be buzzing:
Couples and families with prams and dogs on leashes can stroll along the
beachfront and little streets, browsing through the quaint shops, stopping at
pavement fires for a glass of gluhwein or hot chocolate or delicious 'food on
the go' from one of the many Food stalls while buskers will perform around each
corner. Restaurants and pubs, each with their own party with live bands and
musicians, will offer special warming winter fare or, if you really want to
dance and party, stop at the Music Fest Marquee in the centre of the village, at
'Melt-stock', which will be pumping as usual or at the Harbour Island Waterfront
with its beautiful romantic Harbour bridge - all decorated in sparkling white
lights. Catch a 'Fairy Ferry' across to the Old Harbour for more entertainment:
Browse the Craft Market at the 'fantasy-painted' Indigo Backpackers lodge or the
intriguing village museum collection at the historic NG Church where local organ
musicians and choirs will entertain. Meander along the Art Route, enjoy a
fashion show, and for the very brave, a visit to the Enchanted Ghost House is a
must!
At the historic Post Office tree buy Winter Wonderland memorabilia and offer
donations of blankets and food. NGO's '5th Principle' will support orphans and
the Lions events will support their charities in need.
